How to request a Guarantor
Updated over a week ago

Guarantors are available on request for individual tenants. For more info on what makes a good guarantor please visit Guarantor Criteria.

You can request a guarantor at the point of requesting a RentPassport or at any point after a RentPassport has been shared with you. See instructions for both below.

Requesting a guarantor alongside a RentPassport®:

To request a guarantor when requesting an applicant's RentPassport. You will need to follow the below steps

  • Log in to your HQ account and click on RentPassports

  • Then click the button "Request Rent Passport" on the top right.

  • You will then see a pop-up box asking you to select the branch and enter the renter's details.

    • Enter the renter's first name, last name, contact number and email address.

  • You will then need to select the tick box "Guarantor Needed".

Below is an example of what you will see:

  • Click "Send request" and this will email the request to the renter to provide a guarantor alongside their referencing details on their RentPassport.

Requesting a guarantor when a RentPassport® has been shared:

To request a guarantor when a RentPassport has already been shared, you will need to follow the below steps:

  • Log in to your Canopy HQ account.

    • Select the RentPassport of the applicant.

      • On the right-hand side panel, you will see 'Guarantor' under the screening results.

  • Click on "Request" and you will see a pop-up to confirm you accept the charge for this additional service.

    • Tick the box if you are happy to accept the charge and click "Send request". This will now send the request to the renter for them to complete the additional sections.

The guarantor will need to complete the mandatory sections of their RentPassport in order to guarantee the applicant. You will be able to see which applicant is connected to which guarantor (and vice versa) on the screening summary panel.

Once the guarantor has completed the RentPassport, you will be able to proceed with renting the property to the applicant should you wish to do so.

Tips:

  • If you need to cancel a guarantor request for an applicant, you can do this on the RentPassport by clicking on "Cancel Request" under 'Guarantors'.
